Church Projects and Events
The Church is involved with several on going projects.
1. Keo Women of the Church (KWOC) meet on the second Monday of each month at 7p.m. They plan church activities, fund raisers, collect food for the local food pantry, Missionaries in Congo and Chile, Undie Sunday to collect underwear for children at the Methodist Behavioral Center and making up UMCOR packages to be sent to other countries in need as well as disaster area in the US . They lead in planning and preparing meals for families who lose loved ones. They maintain a Prayer List and are leaders in helping to keep it going. They recently published as a fundraiser for the church a Keo United Methodist Church cookbook. Other fundraisers are being discussed.
2. Also, the ladies of the Church are making prayer shawls to be given to people in the community . The shawls are begun with a blessing for the recipient by the person who is making the shawl and then by all members of the church during church services. The shawls are given to anyone undergoing an illness or as a comfort after the loss of a loved one. Each shawl has a short note attached: " This shawl was made to bring you comfort. It was stitched with prayers and blessings for you. The shawl, which have been made for centuries, are symbolic of God's unconditional LOVE for you. Also, enclosed is a handmade angel as a reminder that everyone has a guardian angel that watches over you. With love and our prayers from Keo United Methodist Church".
3. Annually on the first Saturday in October the Women of the Church holds a fund raiser with a beans and cornbread lunch.
4. Sunday School for all ages with newly decorated Sunday School Rooms.
5. The Keo Men's Breakfast began around 1935 with two men (Jimmy Beard and Morris Flynn) but has continued to grow over the years to about 30 men. They meet the first Sunday of each month in the Fellowship Hall at 7:30 a.m. A speaker of the month is introduced and the program is presented at 7:50 a.m. and continues till 8:30 a.m. Breakfast foods are bought and cooked by volunteers at a cost of $3.00 per month. Although the breakfast is held at the United Methodist Church, it is open to everyone no matter what church they belong to.
6. The 5th Sunday Singin' is held on , yes, the last Sunday of the months which do have five Sundays. These are ecumenical in nature, rotating between the Keo Baptist church and the Keo United Methodist church. Guest musicians, as well as local musicians, present a variety of formats from soloists, to duets, trios, quartets and, occasionally, a large group. the music is religious in nature and always a blessing to all who are present. Following the music time there is a period of Fellowship and a sharing of finger-foods prepared by the host church. People from several churches attend these popular special services.
